Spiritual Psychotherapy

Psychospiritual Counselling and Spiritual Psychotherapy

Spiritual Psychotherapy addresses the individual as more than just a collection of thoughts, emotions and behaviours. It invites an individual’s beliefs, value systems and spiritual self into the conversation.

I specialize in helping people of any faith or belief system, who identify themselves as being on a spiritual path.

Spiritual psychotherapy looks different for different people. It does not presuppose a particular religious background, or any religious background at all. An individual seeking this kind of therapeutic support may have found that traditional therapy or counselling does not fit for them or that it does not address their concerns with the level of depth that they would like. In spiritually integrated psychotherapy sessions, the whole of the self is invited into the room.

“As a therapist I have the honour of seeing exposed each corner of the human psyche. I am afforded the opportunity to know a person’s deepest fears, triumphs, wishes and inner obstacles. In each encounter with a client, all of humanity is unveiled. We are all connected. From these experiences I am made certain that we are more than the sum of our visible parts; more than our words, more than our behaviours, more than the things and the people we surround ourselves with. Each of us is a universe unto ourselves; a river which runs deeply, beyond the benign and every day. Human beings, in all of their expressions, are undoubtedly sacred. We are not mechanical beings but spiritual beings, with incredible potential. I hold this notion close to me as I work with my clients. The most meaningful conversations had between client and therapist are those in which spirit meets spirit”

Kristy Kirby, R.P.

Spiritual psychotherapy may or may not address specifically spiritual concerns, questions or goals. It may simply refer to an approach of openness. You may simply wish to enter a space in which you are free to explore how your religion or spiritual values integrate with your life experiences. Alternatively, you may find yourself focused on your spiritual journey and development. You may be struggling with your beliefs or having difficulty walking your path to purpose and fulfillment. You may have identified a blockage or trauma which you feel is holding you back from reaching your highest potential. You may be seeking a deeper connection with yourself, with nature, with God or with spirit.
If so, spiritual psychotherapy may be the right fit for you.

A Spiritual Psychotherapy session, as with any other therapy session, will be tailored and unique to you. Your therapist will work with you to understand your experience, your struggles and successes, and to develop achievable goals or therapeutic direction.
